There is nothing better than having a soundproof room. Compared to 10 years ago, soundproofing has become a necessity, there are people that want that peace, quiet and tranquility that soundproofing offers.

Below we are going to cover soundproofing in different forms as well as scenarios.

Windows:

The first priority is the windows. You will need to focus on the strength and integrity of the windows. There are double pane windows that will serve 2 purposes home efficiency and the ability to block sound energy.

Walls:

Full teardown of walls. This is the most expensive it will be dirty and dusty and there are going to be lots of clean-up time. If you are familiar with construction or into doing it yourself, then you are familiar with all of the aspects and steps involved.

You are now down to bare studs and you are ready for the insulation.

There are 2 different types of insulation to consider:

Mineral wool insulation: This type of insulation will Reduce unwanted noise room to room(Soundproofing Properties).Will keep a home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Is resistant to mold, mildew and fungi growth.Has excellent fire resistant properties.

ROCKWOOL Insulation: This type of insulation is more expensive and is designed to be of higher quality. It is made from stone and has non-directional fiber orientation and is higher
Density. This means that it will trap sound waves and vibrations better. Has excellent fire resistant properties.

Mass Loaded Vinyl(MLV) barriers are an extreme step-up, made from high density organic sands and salts and minute metal particles. 4′ x 10′ (40 square feet) 1 lb MLV acoustic barrier. put this up before you put up the sheet rock for improved soundproofing.

There are 2 types of sheetrock to consider:

Sound engineered drywall: this type of sheetrock absorbs rather than conducts sound.

Type X Fire-Rated Drywall for fire resistance is denser than standard drywall, this means it will stop sound better. Is made with gypsum,fiberglass, and metal particles.

Ceilings:

tearing down a sheetrock ceiling will be a huge task. There are lots of different advantages to tearing out a ceiling.

One advantage is to add mineral wool insulation followed by acoustical soundproof mating to the ceiling to avoid hearing the sounds of people walking around upstairs.

You can re-sheetrock the ceilings and use Green Glue Damping Compound to further soundproof the  sheetrock used for the ceiling.

Floor:

There are many reasons to install a new laminate or luxury vinyl floor and the choices are unlimited as well as the reasons. Today, I will list the many possibilities as well as options and the many different applications.

To really get solid soundproofing results. You are going to want to use double plywood sheets with generous amounts of “Green Glue” between each layer.

You will need to “Green Glue” the underlayment to the subfloor, followed by double plywood sheets with generous amounts of “Green Glue” between each layer. Your luxury vinyl or laminate flooring is  installed on top of the plywood.

Luxury Vinyl Flooring:

Luxury Vinyl plank and luxury vinyl Tile is 100% plastic. There are many reasons to go with vinyl flooring. I am not talking about those ugly vinyl tiles in older homes, this is a far cry from sheet vinyl.

Luxury Vinyl is crafted from several layers of resilient polyvinyl chloride(PVC) The top layer is coated with urethane. Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) These are long planks that closely resemble the look of actual traditional hardwood floors. Can float, be glued down, or snapped together.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) These highly attractive tiles are best suited for imitating textures like stone, granite, and concrete. Luxury Vinyl Tile can snap together, float, peel, and stick, or be glued down.

Luxury vinyl is perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and furnished basements. where there might be a chance for flooding and potential water damage.

Luxury vinyl textures will stay beautiful for years of regular sweeping, cleaning and the occasional deep cleaning with manufacturers cleaning products.

 

 

Laminate flooring:

Laminate flooring is a 99% wood product. Which means it will be somewhat resistant to moisture, if planks are loked together, will not be water resistant in circumstances where there might be a water leak.

Excellent at simulating wood,stone or oak effect. Resisits scratching,moisture and everyday wear and tear, as well as being easier to clean than real wood flooring.

Laminate flooring gained a major foothold in the modern home. Because it was the first flooring with a unique wood-grained look that homeowners and do-it-yourselfers could truly install on their own.
